about tantra spa

Tantra Spa is a one location and one woman owned boutique spa who opened its doors in Ferndale Michigan in 2002. At that time, owner and Esthetician, Yvette Tremaine was the sole service provider and over the years this unique spa has added rooms, staff and services now offering massage, waxing, body treatments, award winning facials, natural nail services and a retail boutique featuring Aveda along with many other local and natural products for the home and self care.

Small is size, but big in heart, Tantra spa prides itself on splendid services performed by nurturing and masterful staff, exemplary customer service and a welcoming vibe. We offer services for men, women and teens in a cozy, private setting, and use Aveda's pure plant and flower derived products in our services. Our mission at Tantra is to create a calming environment and to provide you, our guest, with relaxing, blissful and unforgettable services. When you walk into Tantra, you're immediately transported to a truly magical place and your sensory adventure begins. Aromas from nature fill the air and you feel relaxed and carefree. The warm, earthy interiors embrace and welcome you. Organic herbal tea comforts you, and your journey into a blissful state begins. Your body and mind begin to take in the constant soothing rhythm of nature sounds and slow earthy grooves, and the power of touch takes you to a far away place. You have arrived.

yvette / Owner/Esthetician/Reflexologist

Before opening Tantra, Yvette had worked in the skin care industry for thirteen years managing for Estee Lauder and Aveda. Skin care and natural ingredients were always in her blood along with owning her own business, so it seemed logical to get her license in esthetics and the rest just fell into place. Yvette loves being able to relax the body and mind of her client and make beautiful changes to their skin naturally. Yvette is a mom, nurturer, photographer, dancer and gardener and is at her best in nature. She loves travel, music of the 60s and 70s, natural remedies, a simple life, being quiet, cats and dogs, Sunday mornings, being barefoot, Lake Michigan, dark chocolate and kombucha.

Heather / Esthetician

Heather is a 2000 graduate of Michigan College of Beauty. Since then, she has been in the customer service and skin care industry with jobs ranging from a laser technician to management positions and eventually returning to the spa industry which she believes is truly her calling. There is nothing more rewarding than making someone feel good. Heather's favorite part of the job is meeting new people everyday and all their individual stories. She loves making people laugh, chocolate, coffee, yoga, knick knacks, house plants and spending time with her pets!

Jen / Esthetician

Jen has been a licensed esthetician since graduating from the Douglas J Aveda Institute in 2010. After working for many years in an office setting, she was ready for a new challenge and for something that would allow her more time with her family. Working at Tantra is everything that Jen could want in a job, she sees it as a place for her to grow and truly express her personality and passion for helping others. Her favorite part of the job is seeing the euphoric smile on her client's face after a facial...nothing can beat that! Jen married her best friend in 2009 and has three beautiful and energetic children. She loves traveling up north, walking the beach and finding rocks, s'mores by the fire, pool days, ice cream, exploring new parks, fruit, dancing in the car and movie nights cuddled up together on the couch.

Molly / Nail Technician/Reflexologist

Molly has been doing manicures and pedicures since 1989, and in 2009 became a certified reflexologist . She's very passionate about natural healing and loves the idea of helping someone balance their mind, body, and spirit, through touching their feet. She loves Sedona, Bohemian Beach, Leland and Northport, paddleboarding, fresh margaritas, the 3 Johns (Denver, Mayer and Lennon), the Dirt Bros., any song written by her husband Mike, a good glass of red wine and Italian food. Molly is happiest when her husband, son and dogs are all together at home sitting by the fire.

Susan / Massage Therapist

Susan has been a licensed massage therapist since 2009. She is fortunate to have had a varied education in massage therapy: professional training from mentors with over 20 years experience, to a 750 hour clinical massage therapy program (Soma Institute). Even after many years in this field, she adheres to the philosophy: the more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to learn and respectfully apply this at the beginning of each massage; knowing each person is different and there to receive a massage suited to their specific needs.

Karianne / Massage Therapist

Karianne graduated from the Health Enrichment Center in 2007 and became Nationally Certified in 2009. Massage therapy is one of the ways in which she maintains a healthy lifestyle, and she also practices yoga, enjoys the outdoors, is a musician and artist, has a Level 1 in Reiki, and is an art therapist. Karianne believes that massage therapy can increase mind/body awareness, help manage stress, improve health and the overall quality of life. Her goals are to earn her Master Level in Reiki, and integrate many different modalities of healing including massage, art therapy, music, equine therapy and meditation.

Jamie / Massage Therapist

Jamie has always had a passion for massage therapy and all of the healing benefits that massage does for the mind, body and soul. Some of the benefits include relaxation, improved circulation, improved posture and strengthening the immune system. She realized she wanted to become a massage therapist after getting massages herself for years and personally felt the benefits of what massage does. She always felt she was a healer of some sort, so it only seemed natural to go to massage school. She attended the Flint School of Therapeutic Massage and graduated in October 2015. She is committed to her craft, believes that every person has the ability to heal themselves and she has respect for where her client is in their process. She also believes that there is integrity in her work and a connection with her client and is honored to have a moment in others' journeys. Jamie enjoys working at Tantra Spa, traveling, sunsets, essential oils, getting massages on the beach, vegetarian food, music, comedy shows, art, anything zen, and her dog Rocco.

Catherine / Massage Therapist

Catherine believes "it was written in the stars" she became a whole hearted practitioner of the healing arts profession. Living in the high mountain grandeur of Colorado for 16 months, she became inspired to return to Michigan and study massage with the now late great Irene Gauthier. This heightened her awareness of the importance of deep relaxation as the foundation for health and wellness. After graduating in 1988, she dove into a private practice helping friends and family find balance and relaxation. Diving deeper into the healing arts brought her a registration in Jin Shin Do Bodymind Acupressure in 1995. Layering the wisdom of the energy meridians of the body and further study of Eastern practices such as Chen style Tai Chi, Chi Gong, Taoist Chi Nei Tsang and all forms of Hatha Yoga to this day, insures she "walk her talk." She became licensed in Michigan for massage in 2014. Catherine finds great joy in assisting clients find balance in body and mind, ease of movement and relaxation, offering a blend of massage, acupressure and natural approaches to health and healing. She enjoys being in nature, playing in her garden with her daughter, fostering native plants, watching goldfish in her backyard pond, growing vegetables and herbs and finding new and sustainable ways of bringing balance to self and the planet.
